If you’ve ever felt buried under advice, tabs, tutorials, and “one more video,” this one is for you. We talk about the biggest mindset shift students need to make when they join an online music academy: your job isn’t to research every answer on YouTube anymore. Your job is to show up, interact, and let us guide you with a plan that actually fits your life and your playing.

We break down what that support looks like in real terms. Use open rooms for quick conversations, even if you only have five or ten minutes. If you can’t make it live, send a message or record a short video so we can respond with clear next steps. The key is staying connected and getting assessments of your playing, because feedback beats guessing every time. When something feels confusing, too fast, too slow, or just not clicking, saying it out loud is how we fix it.

We also explain how weekly check-ins (like Monday reviews) keep your practice plan on track and prevent overwhelm. Progress isn’t about pretending everything is “awesome.” It’s about honest communication, small adjustments, and steady momentum built with coaching, accountability, and a clear plan of attack.

If you want more consistent results from your instrument practice, hit play, then subscribe, share this with a friend who’s stuck, and leave a review. What’s the one thing you’d ask your instructor to help you with right now?

Thanks for being here!! I will continue to do my best to bring you the best, most informative guitar discussions to help you along your guitar journey!

The more you share this podcast with others, the more I can continue to grow this channel and offer the best information and advice I can to you.
Thank you!
Steve

You know, to really make the academy successful for you, one of the most important things you have to do in the beginning is understand that this is not like your experiences before. Your job is not to research everything and find the answers to everything and watch a bunch of videos on YouTube. I'm not saying you can't do those things. You can do whatever you want. What I'm saying is that's not your job anymore. Your job is to interact with us and let us guide you and help you and optimize what it is that you're working on, how you're working on it. Okay. So we have a plan of attack. So we know where you are, we know where you're going, and we're working on the things that you need to get you there. Your journey is completely different than somebody else's, even though maybe the goals are similar. Where you are, what you're doing, what you need work on, that's all personal. And so, you know, your job is not to adopt the old attitude of, you know, I need to do the research and I need to find the videos on YouTube and I need to do this. It's not. Your job is to allow us to help you figure out all of those things. Okay. That's why you're here. It's to interact in these, in this environment. You don't have to be overwhelmed by the environment. You just simply need to take advantage of it. You need to look at your week and say, when is it that I can jump into open rooms this week? Or you just get used to, you know, every day for five or 10 minutes, you've got availability during this time to be able to jump into an open room, have a conversation. Or when if you can't jump into an open room, you can you can, you know, send a message to your instructor with questions that you've got, or send a video to your instructor, and your video can, your instructor can reply to you. Like there's a lot of opportunity here to stay connected, and that's the key. Get assessments of your playing. Let us watch you play, right? If you feel like you're stuck on something or something doesn't make sense, or you're confused, or something's moving too quickly, you have to say something. Okay, nobody in here is a mind reader. Our job is to help you, our job is to guide you, get you where you want to go, find your level of push, and then get you there. And then every Monday, have check-ins with you. How are things going? How are you feeling? Is there any adjustments we need to be, you know, need to be made? Do you feel overwhelmed? Do you feel underwhelmed? How are things going? That's what we do on those Monday check-ins is to make sure everything's working. Okay. If you feel like you're getting, you know, lost or overwhelmed or, you know, you need some sort of reassessment or, you know, any adjustments that need to be made, you need to let us know. It's very important because this is a relationship. That's what this is. That's what makes this so different. Is we want to be here to help you, to organize your thoughts, to help you with that plan. You know, if you feel like something's wrong, then let's talk about it and figure out what we need to do to fix it. Okay. Don't hold that stuff in. Let us help you. That's the whole point. Okay. So I want you to succeed. That's the whole thing. I am glad. We are glad that you're here. Okay. And now that you are here, let's make this a success for you. Okay. But the way to do that is don't just bury yourself in watching videos and go out on YouTube like you used to do. Let us help and guide you. And then when you have something on your mind, good or bad, say something. Let us let us listen to you and figure out what's going on with you and then make adjustments as needed. If you feel like things aren't moving fast enough, say something. If you feel like you're getting a little overwhelmed or you watch something and you're like, hey, that doesn't make sense to me, or that was too fast, or I didn't understand what that is, say something so we can help you. That's the whole thing. Okay? Don't be shy. Be honest. That's how we're going to get you where you want to go, is be honest with us. Okay. Once we get you in that space where you're utilizing the open rooms and the one-on-ones and, you know, whatever it is that works for you, for your world, once we get that organized and it's working for you and you've got the right things that you're working on, you can kind of take off from there. Okay. So please understand, I'm not saying you can't work above and beyond. I'm not saying anything like that. What I'm saying is we have to make sure that we're sticking to some element of a plan and make sure that that plan's actually working. And the way to do that is we just got to make sure we're talking to each other. All right. So take care, stay positive. Uh today is Friday, so we've got the weekend coming up. So again, you know, Monday's going to be coming around the corner. Your instructors are going to be reaching out to you to talk to you about whatever. That's the perfect time to go, look, this is what I'm struggling with, or this isn't coming together. Don't be that kind person that just says, oh, everything's great. Everything's wonderful, right? Everything is awesome. It's it you don't have to do that. You can tell us what's going on. You're not going to hurt anybody's feelings. We got to help you. That's why you're here. All right. See you later.
